Auf dieser Tour wird Epp sein aktuelles Album Shadowlands präsentieren. Sein fesselndes Songwriter-Talent verknüpft die klanglichen Landschaften mit seinen Erzählungen, wodurch ein Land entsteht, dass jegliche Form von Zynismus von seinen Grenzen fernhält und ernsthafte Wogen der Hoffnung mit offenen Armen empfängt, auch in Momenten tiefster Finsternis. Genau diese Seelenlandschaft betritt Matt Epp, um die opulent ruhelose Americana von Shadowlands hervorzubringen.
So erzählt beispielsweise der geisterhaft anmutende Song „Uncharted Water“ die wahre Geschichte eines spirituellen Wesens, dem Epp vor vielen Jahren in den Wäldern begegnet ist. In „North Country“, dem Kernstück des Albums, das wohl am besten Epps reale Lebensumstände charakterisiert, kehren Gänse nach Hause zurück. Der Song thematisiert die Belastung einer Beziehung durch Zeit und Raum und sinniert über die Strapazen der Liebe während ein translunarisches Saxophonsolo den Raum erfüllt. Und in „Unnatural“ wettert er kampfbereit in einem scharfen und ungeschönten Ton gegen soziale und ökologische Ungerechtigkeiten und gedenkt dabei Neil Youngs kritischer Aktivistenhymnen.
